Sport suspension

I regret not having the dynamic drive. Retrofitting it would be too expensive now. Does BMW have a sport option on the X5 that is not of dynamic drive? I figure this would be cheaper to retrofit. I'm so used to the E90 firm ride I don't mind having my X5 firmer.

I actually had a similar dilemma when ordering my truck. The debate was between the Sports Package (which included Dynamic Drive) and the Technology Package. Retroffiting a a voice activated Navigation System with real time traffic info and a Rear-view camera, aftermarket or OEM (albeit at a cost higher than the price of the package) was much more practical than retroffiting suspension components to get a "sportier" ride. Tack on the additional costs of 19" wheels, a new steering wheel, push button dynamic suspension capabilities, an anthracite headliner, and recaro sport seats and the price tag would have been astronomical. I ordered the Sports Package.

As for your question, I found that due to the relative newness of the E70, there wasn't alot to choose from. The usual suspects are: AC Schnitzer, Hamann (lowering kit), Hartge (springs), Eibach (lowering springs), and H&R (lowering springs).

Price range depends on who you go with. In my opinion, most of these setups are for looks only since most of these manufacturers aim to lower the vehicle at least 30mm (some lower the X5 even more).

Our new E70 does not have the chrome window trim. The book indicates you only get this option with the sport package. Am I confused?

^ you don't. It's supposed to be more stiff but I seriously don't feel a difference... good and bad I guess. I just leave it on sport all the time. Even with non-runflats, the two modes feel the same to me.

I don't have it and I used to regret but i think it's okay not to have that sport button. i just have the sport package with permanent stiff suspension. My dealer did not have any with the sports button when i picked up mine so i really didn't have a choice. I hear that most people can't even tell the difference with the button so why bother regret not having it??

I do wonder what it is like to have active steering though.

it's useful in some case, but you have to get used to it. However i'm sure you will not happy when you drive a car without active steering later on.
