its true the 4.8 starts in M2 when in D mode..i recently tried out the kickdown mode and wowzers it feels so different! shifting at 6000 rpm is another experience with a v8.i can see how the DCT transmission would be much better cuz theres a very noticable lag in gear shift when doing this

I think they all do this, my 3.0d Sport does this. I cruise to a stop and try to speed off before stopping and it is slow to engage a lower gear. My hubbie has an E65 7 Series 3.0dSE and that did the same until he complained. They reset the ECU and told him to drive aggresively and all is fine.

Hmmmm .....I thought the main reason that you do a break-in is to ensure that all the moving engine parts get thoroughly soaked in oil before you stress it with higher revs...not because there might be something "wrong" with the engine. I'm sure these modern BMW engines can take a top-notch beating from the get-go, but if I pay $70 K for something, I'm going to err on the side of caution.
