E70 starting without key (no comfort access)

I was driving today and my idrive was acting up so I parked, pressed stop, removed the key, pressed stop twice and my car started. The key was not in the ignition, but my foot was on the brake. I do not have comfort access. Is this normal, or is my car acting up? I tried it a few more times when I got home and the same thing is happening.

Yeah, I wish! I should also point out that this doesn't happen without the car having been started first. i.e. I can't just get in the car and press start without the key inserted.

even if you eject the key, you should be able to restart the engine if the driver door has not been opened.

Try it one more time, but this time, pop the key in, start the engine, pop the key out, stop the engine- open door, then close door (driver door) then without putting the key in again, push the start button. If the engine still starts after the driver door being opened and closed, you'll have to go see a dealer.

Cool thanks. I tried that and it wouldn't start after I opened and closed the door. Just a new discovery, I guess.

this happens on all push/start bmws. you have like a 5-10 second window to restart the car again without the key.

Exactly what I was searching for as this happened to me to on my 2011 X35d and I was wondering why it did that. Dang, thought I had comfort access for a moment.

Normal, weird, but normal.

If you wait 30 seconds or so (I think, I don't remember exactly how long) it won't so it.

I have no idea why they built this "feature" in.

Seems like an odd thing to me. We tried it on our 2006 325 and it worked as well. Maybe it's a leftover part of NOT having comfort access. I have a 335d loaner today with CA and it's nice.
