Stolen

I am a new 2008 x5 owner and am wondering if anyone has had any issues with thefts, of either parts (wheels, lights, etc.) or the vehicle. Also any tips for preventing this (wheel locks etc) would be greatly appreciated.

My X5 came with wheel locks. No issues with any theft but I keep mine in a garage.

I keep my baby outside all year. i mean its a gated lot but yeah mine came with security wheel nuts (i think, may be not ) but I feel safe and secure. I got the 20" as well.

Just make sure you park your car in a safe neighborhood. The wheel locks should act as a deterrent for getting your wheels stolen, though I know they can be removed with some maneuvering.

Some E53 X5 owners have done the "Keyhole delete mod" as a deterrent, which replaces the keyhole on drivers door with the cover like on passenger door which is a UK X5 part #, but can be easily ordered in US. Not sure if any E70 owners have done that.

with the keyhole delete mod, does that mean there would be absolutely no way of getting into the car if your battery died?

There is secret way to get to battery. Those who do this mod prepare for that in advance.

As I said, it is only a deterrent. If they want your car they will get it anyway. Check my comments in the link posted by autoque.
