Last of the 08s?

I just went from shopper to (almost) owner, so I thought I should register and become part of this great board.

I was hoping that the turbo engines would be available in the X5 for 2009, but it now appears that they are coming in MY2010. Since we needed a new car this fall, I got more serious with the local dealers looking for an 08 deal.

I got a pretty loaded 2008 v8 for just over $67000 -- this was about $1k under invoice, but the premium promotion still puts just under $1k in the dealer's pocket. Full list on the car was over $73k.

The car is in transit, and should be delivered within a few days.

Anyone in the PNW selling 18" take-off wheels so I can mount some snow tires?

thanks!

Not sure about the engines, but I do have the "2009 Model Year wholesale and retail price list", and in both lists the cars are listed as xDrive30i and xDrive48i (and it does include the price increases mentioned elsewhere in the US). I would doubt that they would keep the nomenclature the same while updating the engines, esp with such significant upgrades. I would expect the turbos to be the xDrive35 and xDrive 50.

Also, the other cars that use the 4.8l v8 are also keeping it, like the 5 and 6 series. Rumor is that these, once updated, will be the 555 and 655, but the 550 and 650 appear on the pricelist for 2009. It appears that the only cars getting the TT4.4v8 in 09 are the new 7 and the x6.

With the rumor of an update to iDrive in mid-MY09, perhaps BMW is considering a short 09 run, with a early 2009 intro for the MY2010 with the new iDrive and new engines (and perhaps the mid-life refresh at the same time).

Ultimately I don't know. Maybe they are coming in MY2010. Or maybe earlier in 2009 and BMW is obfuscating in the hope to move the remaining 2008. In any case, I think we would have picked the TTv8, and I tend to not like to get first or second year engines. BMW likes to beta test on early adopters too much. I'm happy with the well tested 4.8 valvetronic.
