Goodbye, farewell, good riddance!

Well, I've had enough! Rear hatch that CANNOT be made to sound like its properly closed, i.e. squeaks and rattles! Peeling plastic parts that leave little black stuff on your hands and clothes. Door panels so thin and flimsy that if anything is accidentally in the way of the doors being closed punches a hole right through them. Rear DVD that has never worked properly despite being replaced. This car is so fragile that I'm terrified to have passengers because they may break something simply by using it!

Been to the dealer more times than I care to count. This car is a runner-up to a MBZ ML, which was at the dealer more times than the X5 (so far)!

I've got an appointment at the Lexus dealer today to trade this crap in! I guess this is my last German car and I feel kind of sad. I've seen an era come and go! Today, so-called "luxury" cars of the German persuasion seem to be unreliable with cheap parts and no durability. Younger people with no money but decent credit drive them around and think its something "special" but have no clue what the cars were before MTV and the onset of the tacky "bling" generation!
Thanks for all the info that's posted. It helped me in trying to deal with the problems this car presented and kept me hanging-on this long!

you've obviously never driven a volvo xc-90. Now there's a car that rattles and shakes and generally falls apart. We went through 2 of them in 3 years. So far our X5 has been a dream in terms of build quality.

Try a Tourareg, my Treg has 31k on the clock with zero issues. My X5 was back in the shop for 90+ issues in 2 years of ownership

Good luck with the Lexus. If you by an SUV from them you may wanna take some motion sickness pills for their bodyroll before your drive.

Funny thing is I had a Lexus GX. It was in the shop more than any of my X5s have been. And yes, the thing rode like a barge.

Sorry you had such a bad experience, I know that's not fun.

Can you elaborate?

What year and model?

Which plastic parts were flaking off?

I have never heard of the issue you are having with the door panels. Door panels on any car are pretty much leather and some sort of plastic material. Of course if you slam the door with something sharp sticking out there is a chance of puncturing something.
