I've been waiting two years for the diesel, and I've decided to wait for the new I drive since I've waited this long...

When is the retrofit for the 2008 E70 going to be available?

I doubt that I would be available to afford it though...

Dunno if a S/W update will add some or all of the new iDrive features? The extra buttons on the new iDrive just seem to be replacing the shortcuts using the present controller, dunno how much value will that add?

Actually, I guess I was thinking more about the Nav than the iDrive...

I hope we get something. I really dislike iDrive, but I had a lease ending and good pricing, so I could not wait.

It will be interesting to see what the new facelift will be for MY2010 and which style 20" wheels they will switch to. I like how they did the current 3 series facelift/wheels for '09.

+1; my wife is getting impatient, but I know she'll hate existing iDrive

It will be available around when the diesel is, which may be next month, and may be next year. Nobody can seem to make up their mind.

My other car has a touch screen Nav interface but I love the iDrive on the X5. Here are the reasons:
1. Using the touch screen is more distracting, you have to take eyes off the road onto the Nav screen while leaning forward to punch in data. iDrive is next to my arm resting on the arm rest and I can juggle my eyesight between the screen and the road without having to co-ordinate it with my hand.
2. The car shake while driving invariably causes you to select the wrong option/character.
3. Smudges on the touch screen
4. No shortcuts to the various screens like the iDrive, you have to go back to the main screen to switch.
