Chrome Exhaust Tips
I have an 2007 4.8 and the black paint inside the chrome exhaust tips is slowly, but surely, wearing off. As a result, the inside of the tips look terrible...showing some steel (not chrome inside) and some paint. I took it to a dealer who blamed the problem on poor gas which is a ridiculous answer. It seems to me a clear design flaw if the powder coating cannot stand up to less than 20,000 miles of normal wear!!! The tips are welded on so access is not easy. Thanks for any guidance.

I have noticed the same thing ! and I use the highest quality of gas the stations offer !

I noticed it on many 4.8's......So what is the solution? I do not mind paying to have it fixed, but i want to know what are the options. I was thinking about just "scraping" off the paint and just leaving the metal exposed (not chrome), but i wonder if it will rust, especially with the moisture contantly coming through the pipes? Ideas? Anyone?

I saw cl600 with Metallic Black painted tips ! They were beautiful

You can't fix them, you need new tips if it is really bothering you that much.

the issue is not whether they are repairable but rather should the repair be under warranty. given this is not an uncommon problem, especially with early production 2007 4.8s, it seems to me that BMW should fix them. Has anyone had any luck with their dealer?

Shouldn't the standard warranty cover these type of problems?
New Vehicle Limited Warranty: Your warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship for the first four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, so you can rest assured your BMW will perform as expected.

i am thinking the same thing.......how is this any different then paint wearing off the hood or door panel.....half the paint has worn away.
the first dealer said it was my fault...blamed it on the gasoline.....what a joke!!!!!! i guess i can try others!
