curb rash

2 days after I carelessly messed my right-rears up on a very tall curb in a parking lot (wasn't really paying attention), I went to a Wendy's drive-thru today where it's notoriously tight (covered with tire marks) coming out... yup, I messed up my left rears this time. It might sound like I'm a bad driver but it's just not the case... people scrape up their tire sidewalls randomly but since these are much larger/wider rims they show your mistakes. Scraaaaaaatch more than an inch around the brim. Now everytime I wash it I will be reminded. I don't even want to get replacement (replicas) because it may happen again anyway. Ouch. Drive mindfully out there people... these are some wide tires.

You don't have to get replacements. Find a shop in your area that refinishes wheels. I had mine spot welded, refinished, resprayed and clear-coated for $175/wheel. They look as good as new inside and out!

if that's true that's much better than $500 for 2 replicas.

There's a number of places that do these repairs. Haven't had to try any yet but there might be one of these that you want to look into...

www.rimdoc.com
www.transwheel.com
www.wheelcollision.com
www.wheelsamerica.com

I'm assuming that you'll change your wheels in the winter. That would be the time to look at doing any repairs.

OR you could do a quick paint job yourself

You may wanna use extra fine sandpaper on the scratch area. It will not remove it, but it will look 1,000 times better.

Wendy's It Is!!

I, too, was attacked by Wendy's. I think their windows are too far back while their curb is extended then there are those 20" OEMs that make disaster inevitable. I go through all other vendors and have no problem.

So my salesperson gets me in contact with the guys who do their tires and my 6"x1/4" strip on the left front cost me a full $30 (also did 2 tiny spots on the front right wheel). It took him 2 hours but you can't tell any difference from the original wheels.

Now, here is where things get weird. The day after the repair, I had to go to Sam's and decided a Wendy's shake would be good. I was careful, looked outside the window trying to make sure that nothing would happen. But just as I got to the window and started looking at the shake while thinking about their curb, there was another incident. This one is much smaller and hard to see, but it looks like it was from the same section that had been repaired the previous day.

So I am: (1) staying away from Wendys in the E70 and (2) waiting until I get another real good scratch before having the wheels done again.

(PS Right now I am in a loaner so I'm going to Wendys as often as possible since that little stationwagon has no problem getting through the obstacle course.)

Just stay away from fast food. You save money and you live longer.
