X5 is a good handling SUV, probably much better than any SUV out there, but compare it to even a lowly 3 or 1 series in handling?
You'd be surprised...try driving them. I have both in my garage and find the X5 almost as fun to drive as the M3. The X5 4.8i with 20's will stick around corners better than you can believe an SUV can...and in some ways is more confidence-inspiring because of its stability. I even felt the same way about my last E53 with the same size wheels/tires (275 fronts and 315 rears), which I could take around some curves at a higher speed than I could with the M3.

I would bet that the X6 50i will give the E46 M3 a good run for its money...I know from personal experience that the Jeep SRT-8 is as fast and handles almost as well as the M3. You'd be surprised what they can do with SUVs these days...

Or you could split the difference and get a X5 3.0sd. The V8 is thirsty.

Unfortunately, my dealer says that they will only get 1 Diesel X5 for the entire year!

I found a way to keep my 5er!

Okay guys. How about this?

Today I was at my dealer to test drive a non-sport 4.8 and my sales rep mentioned that a 2004 X5 4.4 had just come in off trade with the hour. We went and looked at it.

It is loaded with every option possible, including Navigation, Comfort Seats, Premium Stereo and a BMW DVD movie player that folds down out of the ceiling. It is not a factory option, but it says BMW on the face of it and it appears to me like it was a BMW accessory added after initial sale.

1. Do you guys think that the X5 is a good value?
2. Is is reliable?

It is certified from the previous owner, serviced at our dealership.

39,000 miles.

The car has not even been into service yet but I can tell that it at least needs new tires. I guess that it will have to be re-certified?

What do you guys think a fair price would be? Unfortunately, it is a 2004 so I can't take advantage of the current certified interest special.

One plus, is that I could purchase this as a fourth car, and keep my 5er, which I really enjoy.

How much $ for a 2004 X5 4.4? Better get a 2005 4.8is and enjoy both the 5er and X5.
