Question on Steering lock
When i turn off the engine and remove the ignition key, the steering wheel used to retract (i mean locked) by itself. After my recent service visit, i don't see that happening and it looks like some settings might have been changed (by service guys). I did verify the iDrive settings and manuals but couldn't find more details. For security reasons, i want to activate this again, how do i do that? Thanks Veera |

What I would do is I would try to sort of let iDrive reboot itself by turning everything off, locking, maybe even push in the fob and pull it out, etc and come back again.
One time, my iDrive would just turn off after i turn the engine off (it's supposed to keep playing music, and electronics should stay on until you get out and lock the doors) I unplugged my iPod, I turned everything off and locked it- the next day, iDrive came back to normal.

we bought our X5 in December 07, built Sept 07 and there has never been a steering lock on it, when I asked the dealer about it I was told that it has so much security on it it does not need a lock
Any one else got it or not? David |

Could it be that the current position of the steering wheel is such that it's doesnt need to move to aid your exit from the vehicle? Mine only moves when it's set low down...
