all settings reset

I had my parent's dog in the car while I wanted to run into the store then remembered there's a motion sensor that may set off the alarm. I tried to lock w/o alarm by putting the key in the lock but that also engages the alarm (new fact for me after repeatedly complaining the alarm is too passive). Anyway, my manual indicated in order to disable the motion sensor I can either leave a window slightly open or press the lock button on the keyfob twice (more specifically, 1 more time quickly after I lock it).

I did the 2x lock thing and there was no visual confirmation on the outside of the vehicle so I hit it a few more times and just ran in. The sensor did appear to get disabled as the alarm never went off after I came out but when I started up the car, all my idrive settings resetted - including the steering wheel position, tailgate opening height, auto-door locks, sport-button turned off, etc. Radio stations and NAV locations were ok though.

I couldn't find in the manual how an idrive reset would be triggered so I was wondering about this... why did these reset when all I did was push lock 2 or 3 times? Perhaps this was a matter of it getting confused that I was using another keyfob? Or I reset the keyfob's settings (though aren't the settings stored in the idrive and not the fob?)

haha, not puzzled but I don't think anyone wants to try this out and erase all their pre-configured options But it would be an interesting thing if it is a feature.

in general, my settings reset at random times for no reason. however, each and every time i use the metal key in the keyhole, my settings get changed. btw, the first time i ever did this, my SAT radio subscription stopped working (i was 20 months in with the free subscription which should have lasted for only 12 months). coincidence....who knows?

general advice rh -- avoid using the metal key unless absolutely necessary. perhaps a s/w fix could avoid this issue. has anyone with a recent s/w upgrade had similar issues?

2X alarm disable...

I have a 2008 and have had it for 8 months. I have a dog with me all the time and always use the 2X on the Key. Never have had a problem so I don't think it has anything to do with the 2X thing. However I have never done it more than once ( 2X ) so doing it several times in a row might do something.
