Gear Shifter Question

Hi, I just recently purchased an 08 X5 and noticed that the P button on the center console shifter is rather accessible and susceptible to someone (or me) accidently engaging the P button while the car is in motion. I have not tested it or done it yet, but does anyone know if there is a safety feature that would prevent the car to engage in P while the vehicle is moving at higher speeds?

Yes there is a safety feature to prevent this.

lol, if you have HUD it will tell you "do not engage P when travelling faster than 7km/h" or whatever miles that is in..

Once in motion you can not engage the P, but one observation, by mistake and while you are moving your arm, you can push the shifter out of D and into N, so if you are tarveling at, say 60 MPH, foot on the gas you will get the engine to rev up fast even past 6k RPM. but this will disengage the cruise control if you are using it. In other brand name cars the shifter is locked in the N or D position until you push the same button you use to engage the R.
