Another problem with the BMW's camera is that there is no sense of depth or dimension. Here's a picture that someone else uploaded in another thread. If you look at the car on the left, indicated by an arrow, it looks flat and unreal, like someone drew a picture of a car on a cardboard box!

Hey, are you serious about the Logitech webcam?

Can anyone post some pics to see the quality difference?

Thanks,

Just because I'm so disappointed with the backup camera, I will show you.

This is the 800x600 resolution output of the webcam on my monitor... you can see the pixels but you can also see the clarity despite this being a camera picture too.

If we could get similar quality on a screen smaller than half that size, I'd be happy. (The smaller the screen, the better quality a decent picture should look).

My wife's Buick Enclave backup camera is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the BMW's. Trying to figure out the technical specs of the camera's to see if replacing the BMW camera with the GM part might work. Reverting...

My previous car (7 years ago) -- Nissan X-trial, has build-in back camera that can work in pitch dark.
The camera comes with an infrared source.

But for this X5, I paied 3 times more than the Nissan, the carema is even worse than the one on my laptop.

So, folks, what you can do? It is BMW.

I am not sure what's the fuss is about bad camera here. My 11 35d has a perfectly good camera - both night and day.
Been recently in a Lexus GX and Infiniti JX - both had blurry camera with much lower resolution than my e70. Friend's Toyota Highlander also has lower res camera, with no sense of where the vehicle is going to end up.

I know this is an old thread, but the problem is not the camera, its the screen. Even with a CIC retrofit and the old camera, the image is light years ahead.

Probably camera too, as the p/n also changed with CIC.
