Seriously, you're comparing an 11 to 08's and you don't understand the issue? Our complaints are why your camera now works perfectly fine day and night. You must think BMW engineers do nothing all day long. Thanks for the insightful post Sherlock.

I actually do think they do nothing all day, Watson.
Want me to start counting issues still present since 2007?

P.S. I think I accidentally resurrected an old thread. It was near the top in the list of topics. Damn you xoutpost..

i have an 08 4.8i and a stigmatism and can see the back up camera at night with no issues. sometimes I really do think bmw owners are mostly whiners that just get off on being critical.

I drove a '13 X3 with the new idrive and cameras. HUGE difference in visual clarity and response time and I would pay for a swap. All you can really make out in the dark are blobs of objects with ours. Someone posted a pic which I can't find at the moment. There's a reason they changed the cameras in the LCIs.

Oh and you have superpowers.

I also have an '08 4.8i and the backup camera sucks.

I can see it just fine too -- I just can't see anything useful on it

It does not compare to the backup camera in far cheaper cars or minivans...

General rule of thimb that B/W cameras perform better at night than the color cameras - simple physics of the chip... there are more sensing "dots" per square micron on the B/W chip that have to sense only "yes" or "no" as opposed to color chips that have to sense three main colors for color pictures, thus reducing the sensitivity by three-fold... However, there are some cameras on the market, that auto switch from color day mode to a B/W night mode... not ours though...
