so could someone officially confirm??

With the new Idrive system (as per available in the new facelifted e90 3 series)

All production form March 2009 - on BOTH x5 and x6 - will have this new idrive? (and on top of this it wont matter if it is NA / EUROPE / Australian market etc..??)

(a) 99% sure
(b) 100%... ??

just with different reports flying around, I read that some cars wont get it till 2010, and X's are late at getting this sort stuff compared to other BMW variants...

Thanks

I've ordered my E70 3.0d last friday, my dealer told me that there would be no next generation I-drive on the 2009 E70
He even wondered how I knew that there was a next generation I-drive coming...

Doesn't sound like your dealer is a well informed source, the new i-Drive has been officially announced by BMW and is no secret, as for the i-drives release on the X5 well thats another story, we all know it will come, just when?

I agree with you, I knew more about the E70 than the sales guy... , but the bottom line remains the same, no new I-drive for MY2009...

Roadster is right. I heard from a person who works for BMWNA that the new I drive will not be installed in the X5/X6 until MY2010.

Why BMW, Why
Remember that the X5 is built in the US while the 3 series is built either in South Africa or Germany. It is very likely that after the economy downturn and be forced to cut output, BMW still have too many current Idrives in stock so it considered keeping it for 2009MY

This is speculation without foundation, but as long as we are guessing; I'd say that a refresh of the model will come in the new model year (2010) as a mid life LCI. There has to be some significant improvement to qualify as an LCI model and for consumers to show renewed interest. I'd say the CIC does that in part. Of course, as I have posted elsewhere, even if we think we'l have to wait for a MY2010, we still don't know when the 2010MY will be introduced. It's fun to talk about it though.

To be honest it does makes some sense not to update the iDrive in the X6 right now, I think the X6 is still really fresh and an update such as this so son after the X6's launch would probably upset many existing x6 owners unfortunately the X5 is it's cousin and both go hand in hand in decision making..... On the other hand, it's in BMW's best interests to make the transition of this new feature to the entire model range in a timely manor and i think March 09 sounds very viable and realistic.
Another note, I personally wouldn't be listening to any dealers right now for their opinion on this, i think they need the sales now not in a possible 5 month time...
