Harsh ride and lots of rattles in My 2007 E70

Do any of you E70 owners have complaints about a very harsh ride on rough pavement and Rattles coming from the windshield, dash, and back seats?

This is my second X5. I ordered my car in June of 2006 so I had one of the very first E70s built.

I love the layout of this car. The controls, The beautiful materials used on the interior, the size of the car (lots of luggage and passenger space), and the styling.

Does anyone know if there has been any changes to the suspension in 2008 or 2009 models to smooth out the suspension a bit.

My lease ends next November and I would like to lease a 2010 X5 3.5d at that time-but only if they can smooth out the suspension and tighten up the construction!

Please give me your thoughts on how you feel about your E70s Ride and Build quality.

Thanks!

I want to add that I just bought a GL 320 for my wife and the RIDE and Build quality are superior to the X5.

I need a slightly smaller car for myself and was thinking of getting the ML 320 next time (at lease end).

The ML has a really cheap looking dash and the MB Command system is not as functional as the BMW I drive ( Never thought I would end up liking the I drive but after 2 years I now love it. Ha ha!

Model year 2010 X5 will most likely keep the same suspension configuration, so it will have the same ride quality as yours now.

If your priority is ride quality, then go with the Mercedes-Benz.

08 here - ride quality is a bit stiff (I'd call it that rather than harsh) but personally I like it better than a floaty-feeling. You know that's what you get when you can't feel a difference between sport-button and non-sport-button. But no problems with build quality (rattles). Most likely 1st-model year problems as you've guessed.

Oh, 1 more thing - if you have the runflat tires, it will be a lot more harsh. I noticed a difference when I went to regular tires.

Harsh ride? The E70 rides like a Lexus compared to the E53.

Well MB would inherently have a softer ride. It makes that tradeoff with handling.

Check tire pressures first, then maybe consider switching to non-runflat tires.

By 2010 creaks and rattles for the most part should have been sorted. Minor changes are continuously made each year, but with the economy we may see cuts in that QA area.

Also keep in mind that the harsher ride wears on components and can make your interior more creaky.

mine's an 07 build and since I fixed the rattle in the back it's very very quiet with no rattles or other unnecessary noises.

Ride is harsher but nothing alarming; I'm used to the Canadian spec Sports package (no adaptive drive) with 20" s

2008 here. No complaints on ride - the ride is much improved over the E53s. The only rattle I've experienced is in the passenger seat at a certain position. I moved the seat and the rattle stopped.

If you like the RIDE and build quality of your new GL320 CDI, then there is NO way you can think the dash on the ML is cheap. The GL320, GL450, ML 320 CDI, R350, R550, ML350 and even the ML550 all have the SAME exact dash, door panels, instruments and even center consoles. Only the ML63 and GL550 have gorgeous leather and super top notch materials. Your GL and the ML do not have the most awesome dash materials, but they are not cheap at all...and IMO not inferior to the X5 at all. The MBZ Command is not hard at all to use, and for 2009 the GL, ML, R and G all received new Command units. While i-Drive is easier in some aspects, Command never just freezes and dies like the Bimmer can, and does do.

I do like BMW I-Drive better than MB Command.
MB E320 drives softer while BMW X5 with run-flat drives firmer.
No rattles/squeaks in either car.
