Interesting, the older BMW tranny software (I'm talking e38, e39, e46 timeframe) learned from your driving style/habits and you would have to disconnect the battery for a while to reset it or erase it's memory. In the case of the issue present here I wonder how effective a sprint booster would be. While not really a fix but more of masking the problem until BMW comes up with a solid fix.

The lag annoys me too, and it is certainly something that I hope gets fixed sometime in the future. From standing starts it is always problematic, unless in S mode.

ah the drive-by-wire accelerator.... I never liked it and I am still not used to how it responds. SLow to respond and crazy untamed reaction when it does respond. I still have to sort of guesstimate how fast and hard I need to push the pedal down in stop and go traffic. 07 4.8i with reprogrammed transmission as well.
I believe the old saying is, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"- I definitely think BMW over-engineered the throttle by wire system. If I remember correctly, on the E46 M3 CSL the BMW engineers actually dumped this throttle by wire business and went back to the old system- according to Fifthgear anyway...

RE: Update Idrive

Recently i send my X5 4.8L 07 for Software update. because of my Parking sensor and Rear Camera, they dont appeal together.
After the Update, it took BMW service center 3 days to do it.
Before the Update. my miles travel per gallon is only 12.9miles/ gallon. my Car Pull very hard when i go up hill. seen like the car is lack of Torque.

After the Update, i get like 14.7 Miles/Gallon. The ride is Very smooth, and the car feel so good to drive than b4. Highly recomend to do the update.
u can save some $$ of gas

SIB #?

xrwrx - Can you tell me which update you received? SIB #? I have an 08 so I am not sure if it would be the same, but I have similar issues with my X5 4.8L. thanks for sharing.

Actually, that's how most auto transmissions are designed to operate, i.e., the more abruptly you press the throttle down, the more likely it will downshift.

I performed this update and I did notice a definite difference. The issue of "not shifting fast enough" was easily reproducible for me on the way home up a hill. So when the TSB was done, it was easily noticeable for me.
