X5 iDrive Knob

Does anyone know if the 2008 X5 iDrive knobs stop turning when you reach the end of a menu? My friend has a 2006 330i and her knob doesn't turn once you reach the end of a menu but mine just lets your turn as many revolutions as you want in both directions regardless of where you are on the menu. Please help!

My 2008 turns indefinitely, and that's normal.

My 2008 X5 turns and turns, but in our 2007 750Li it stops and feels like you are going to snap something if you force it. In the 7, it feels odd how it stops.

for the X5, I'm pretty sure they changed it for 2008. The 2007 definitely had resistance. I wonder if that's a simple firmware change.
