In the US, it is part of the premium package on the 3.0's. not sure if it can be retrofitted.

I have a 2008 X5 3.0 with folding mirrors and I always had the impression that there is an option to automatically fold the mirrors in/out as I start/stop the engine. I searched the manual but couldn't find it. Is this option available?

PS: I've heard that this functionality is enabled with the latest firmware (software) update.

My 2009's don't fold, unless I push the button. Is there a way to have the mirrors fold in when you lock the car, other than doing it by pushing the button on the door.

My Lexus folds the mirrors when I lock the car...

i think the reason it doesn't auto fold is because sometimes in the winter snow and ice can form around the mirror, which could obstruct the mirror from folding properly.

For a car of the X5's level, I would expect to have auto-folding mirrors. I guess not... :-(

It's called "outdoor package" in Canada. Comes with headlight washers, ski bag, folding mirrors etc..

mine came with the premium package, but they don't auto fold like my Lexus does. You have to push the button on the door when you get out of the car if you want them to fold. Is there a way to make them auto fold?

are you sure you want it to fold every time? That can't be good for the motor after 5-10 years... I disabled the passenger-side mirror look-down feature because of this, but I do have to fold the mirrors everytime I run it in my garage... and btw, the auto-fold wouldn't help me there as the car is still running at that point.
