greenish tint in outside mirror

I just returned from driving 3K during the holidays. While in TN with a temp in the 40s, I was ready to back out of my parents driveway and noticed that I could not see behind me with the left outside mirror.

There was something like a greenish tint that covered all but a small border inside the mirror. It went away with 30 seconds and everything was back to normal. No other such episode even during colder days.

I had to run to my dealer as soon as we returned home because of a warning about the oil level and I asked about this green mask. The service rep told me he had never heard of this and it didn't make sense at all.

Anyone else see this?

That makes sense to me but the rep said no and they would have to see it perform this way.

On my Denali, before I tinted it, the same thing would happen to me. While driving at night, I would look out the left window into the miror, and it would be GREENish. Then I look out the right, and its fine.
It pissed me off for a long time. I look out my window at a light and its green!?! I finally tinted the windows, and now I see NOTHING.

That's the auto-dimming mirror feature. It's a bit weird, especially when I back my mom's 325i out of the garage since it "thinks" the daylight outside is a really bright headlight and thus tries to dim the mirrors to compensate.

I get the same effect when I switch on the internal light via the roof centre console (I think this is hitting the mirror sensor located within the rear view mirror console).

When I reverse, everything appears OK.

Dealer informed me this is how it is supposed to operate (I think otherwise).

So you see this regularly?

BTW, I was driving through Asheville recently and Vascar got me the first speeding ticket in 20 years. V1 and cb didn't save this trip.

Yeah, it happens consistently when backing out of the garage in the morning. There aren't many other situations where it happens (I think there is a slight delay so going thru overpasses won't trigger it). Essentially there are multiple light sensors that determine whether dimming is needed or not.

Oh yay, don't remind me of tickets. I get to start school next Tuesday followed by two successive Weds in court.

Was a solution found to this problem? After several months of no green monster in the left mirror, it showed up again this AM backing out of the garage with 60 degree weather. Although it did not last long, I wonder if it will ever become more of a distraction than it is?
