X5 tire size

On the E70 X5 35d with sport package.
Just wondering is it really worth while to have wider tire in the rear than having the same width all around.

275/40/20 on the front
315/35/20 on the rear

or 275/40/20 fro front and rear.
This options is cheaper and can rotate the tire front to back or cross.

On Tirerack, when I input my vehicle spec, it says I can do either option.
So, is it worth it and what is the real advantage? A little to more grip and stability on the rear? Not that 275 width is not wide enough already...

I have changed the stock ones to 265/40/22 and 295/35/22 . the car was much much stable with the wider tires.

I love the look of the wider rears giving it a more aggressive stance - it is definitely noticeably wider even at a glance. It is also technically more grip - I did come from the regular 255 width 19s all around and have not noticed a difference - but I don't push the car higher than 80 and only on typical highways. Anyway, IMO going from 275 to 315 probably won't change performance much at all.

If you don't have staggered, it's true about being able to rotate them front to back (as long as they're not unidirectional - but didn't we have a thread saying BMW does not recommend rotations?)... depends how much you drive and how long you'll keep the car. For myself, I only do 5k miles a year so these unidirectionals will last me a long time regardless. I "sacrificed" for the aggressive look. And no, these don't do worse in the snow either.

I'm not sure if the 275s will fit on the rear because the rear wheels are wider. With the tire sizes you mentioned, I'm assuming you have the wheels with sizes of 20x10 front and 20x11 rear. If the 275s will fit on those rear wheels then that's great, but I have no idea if they will. But I do know that those rear wheels won't fit on the front, so you still wouldn't be able to rotate the tires at all if you have directional tread. With non-directional tread, you could switch sides (swap the rears and swap the fronts).

I was wondering if this setup will work:
Toyo
Front 275/55/20
Rear 325/50/20
Those are the closest sizes offered by toyo

You know, BMW does not recommend tire rotation for some reason (even with models that have same size tires all around). I don't think it's worth deviating from the balanced factory spec. just my 2 cents

Like poleposition said, no.
But Toyo makes the factory spec size of
Front 275/40/20
Rear 315/35/20

Go to Tirerack.com and input your vehicle and it will tell what tire size options you should go with.
