I knew it! Should I go and ask my dealership for the recall?

hah good one, but you know what's funny? I don't think anyone around here drives their bimmer past 65mph. I don't know what it is... 6-series, X5 4.8i, etc... they are all just cruising slowly anyway. Meanwhile I use all my 260hp to drive "spiritedly" on the highway all the time... what's up with that?

Exterior
Black Grill on 3.0 and Titanium Grill on 4.8
Fender flare if you have 20" wheel or bigger.
(If not then 3.0 & 4.8 has the same flat fender flare)
Window trim just like "kimg9582" said
Exhaust tip on 3.0 are round and 4.8 are oval shape.
Rear view camera (I think this is standard on 4.8)

Interior
Seat are different (head rest, and electric lumbar support)
Sport steering wheel on 4.8
Sport button on gear (4.8)
Stainless steel trim on gas and brake padels (4.8)
More speakers on 4.8 (Better sounds system)
Active steering is standard on 4.8
Heads Up Display (optionsl on 4.8)
Rear seat DVDs on 4.8
Air vent on door pillar on 4.8

That's all I can think of at the moment

I always see the 4.8's pulled over by the cops, hence I do notice the grill in my rear view mirror, I guess the 4.8s come with a lead inners for the shoes

On a serious note, I heard folks mention that the regular 3.0 does not come with self leveling suspension (unless equipped with 3rd row seats), whereas it is standard in 4.8s

I think the 4.8 has larger brakes.

4.8 has bigger brake rotors and pads both front and back, self-leveling suspension for all 4.8s as well, fender flares (with the 20") lether is standard, and 150 mph top speed instead of 130 with sports pkg.

The feel in the seat of your pants as you hit the accelerator is a difference...

Having said that, I just had to trade my 08 4.8 for a 2009 GL550 and it has some serious get up and go....Handles pretty well (not as well as the BMW) also.

I changed my order from the 3.0 to the 4.8. You can close this thread now.
