My sources still tell that new iDrive controller is coming in spring. Also confirmed by Scott from BMW AG in X6 2nd gen iDrive thread.

I was told you will get the buttons around the iDrive controller round knob but not the actual updated harddrive iDrive. That will come in 2010 model!

The dealers in Autralia have the update list for the March production X5"s and no new iDrive, just minor stuff & price increases on some options.

I would think this doesn't make any sense. The new controller/buttons are supposed to work with the new iDrive interface--why would BMW spend the money on just putting the buttons in but not the entire new iDrive ?

Can we see this list?

The 2009 5-series and 6-series got the new controller but not the hard drive yet. Go figure.

When did the 5 and 6 series get the 2nd gen i-drive? Do they already have it or are you talking about 2009 March production?

I drove a 528xi loaner at the dealer and it had the new I drive. I don't
know about the hard drive. It did have the extra buttons...

2009 5 & 6 series started with new idrive controller but without the hard drive.
There must have been a slot for NAV disc under the radio buttons.

Well my dealer did order some Mar/09 vehicles in advance for their inventory - However he says on all the spec sheets, there is no mention of any changes to the equipment! He says BMW does not make such changes in the middle of a production year, and feels that any major updates such as the new I-drive will likely be in the next prod year - i.e. 2010.

I am kinda' disappointed. I might wait until March to see what comes through - It's only a month away. However the question still remains ... When does the 2010 production really begin??
