E70 Sports Seats: Different from my 335?

Hi all,

I have an E70 4.8 on order with the Sports Package but WITHOUT comfort seats. It never even occured to me to get the comfort seats until I was going through some old threads. I currently drive a 335 Coupe that has the sports seats. Are they virtually the same as the E70? Some people have complained that it's hard to get in and out of the E70 Sports Seats and that they are not comfortable. I've never experienced either issue in the 335 so I want to know if they are indeed a different seat.

Both my test drives featured the base seats, and I found those to be like "sitting on a bench".

Thanks in advance.

The sports seats are a bit difficult to get in and out due to the side bolsters but once your are sitting in them they provide a snug fit. I like them specially in the twisties Haven't sat in the comfort seats hence cannot compare.

I had a 3 series with sport package and I can tell you both seats are very similar. Actually the seat on the X5 feels better for being deeper and wider. I test drove the confort seats and they are nice, but I do not think they are worth the price differential. They have more adjustments, but the sport seats are just fine and are much much better than the "bench" seats on standard X5. With regards to get in and out, the difference is that the X5 is much higher than the 3 series so instead of landing on the seats like in the 3 series you will be climbing it to get in and out. It does not bother me and I can not imagine driving the back roads here in Colorado without sport seats. It is a lot of fun. Good luck and send pics of your car when it comes in. I know it will be difficult to find the time for it since you will be busy making excuses to drive somewhere.

Thank you for your input and I absolutely will takes pictures!!! Your answer as far as getting in and out certainly makes sense.

see Barcius, you can tell worth too (remember the other thread?). I agree on the comfort seats. I skipped those because while they were comfortable, the benefit is not worth $1k, plus they're "taking away" sport seats which are already paid for separately.

Anyway, I like the sport seats - you can definitely feel it is advantageous having them in fast turns. The side bolsters at the knee are difficult to deal with if you are shorter (than say 5'11") because you have to hop up and out. You can get around this problem by leaning your weight towards the rear of the seat (after facing outward) and reach your left leg down as that part is not raised. It sounds more tedious than it actually is. My wife and MIL have a tougher time being shorter of course... you have to consider who's using the vehicle and how often.

different opinion....i also have E92 Coupe with Sport seat.. and i test drove the E70 with comfort seat and fall in luv with it. I my mind.. i need more comforable when i am driving E70. Nothing will compare to the raw power of E92 335.

LOL. Seats and engines have different weights on my scale though.

I agree with you that height plays a role here, but only if you are shorter than 5' 7'' that you will be probably better off with standard seats or comfort seats. My wife is 5' 9'' and she loves the seats and feels very confortable with them.

the sport seats are stiff, no question....
and the sides are high, so the wife or passenger will always complain
and I got mine re-stiched....by the constant entry-exit pressure
I would go with the comfort seat

I have the comfort seats. I didn't care for the sport seats. The comfort seats are much better. The side bolsters are too high on the sport seats and it makes it hard for some to get in and out...

I have sports seats and I like them a lot. I like having the side bolsters and am quite found of the new M seats with active side bolsters. If you seat yourself in both the comfort and sport seats you'll see that there is really no difference in terms of comfort. it's how well you adjust them that matters.
