is diesel really worth it?
![]() considering that today the price of diesel is around 20% more.... and generally , at least in the UK you get taxed more for diesels... ![]() so is it worth it???? ![]() or is the difference so small it really doesnt matter anymore?? i know if 4.4 petrol is more expensive to run than a 3.0d, but im talking about similar sized engines... ![]() |

a recent article in Roundel suggested a 335d vs a 335 would need 65k miles and a tax credit of $900 to break even. you really need to keep a diesel for an extended period of time to gain any benefit.
the other thing to consider would be the performance gain provided by the 3.0d vs. 3.0 gasser. it's all about the torque. |

Where I'm located in the U.S., diesel is only ten cents more per gallon than premium unleaded. I figured my mileage on my last trip 90% highway @ 80 MPH 24 MPG.

I was told and have heard about the $1550 credit but have been unable to find any information specific to the 35d either on the IRS or EPA website. Anybody know how to confirm this?

Folks the 1550 credit works only for certain pay scales to which I would imagine most people in this forum will not qualify IMHO

Where i live in MA, Diesel is between 0.75 to $1 over the premiere gas.. and could not see how it could break even and the benefit of it.

You try trading a petrol in in the UK and you will find a Derv engine is the best, also the exra torque suits any vehicle over 1.5 tonnes, the new petrols may be best for small cars but larger ones Derv wiil rule. Get a 3.0sd ad you will find out.

I didn't buy my 3.0sd to try and save money on fuel, I bought it because I like diesels and especially like this one cos it's quite a zippy diesel
definitely worth it for me |
