Engine tic when cold

When we first start the car their is a definite engine tic. 2008 bought in Aug. It goes away once the engine is warm. The only reference I see online is to check the oil level (no problems). Anyone else have this? Is it normal? Is it a big problem or can it wait...the next several weeks will be impossible for me to take it in to the dealership.

My 2005 does that now and then
but it's still a question mark.

So unless something breaks
I usually don't worry about it.
But that's just me.

Seems to be normal. I assume you have the 3 litre I6 (3.0si).

VANOS on cold startup makes that noise sometimes. Once a the oil circulates into those parts the noise goes away. I wouldn't worry about it unless the noise doesn't go away after a few seconds.

I get that sometimes on my 3 Series sedan when cold. I asked my service advisor about it one day. He mentioned something to the fact that it is normal and has something to do with the values. I don't know whether or not that answer was legit, or he was just blowing smoke up my arse.

I noticed this exact same thing over the weekend! My 3.0 is brand new (500 miles) so it concerned me at first because I noticed it after the engine had been running for at least 5 minutes (so I thought it was fairly warm). After a liesurely 10-minute drive it was completely gone, so I assume it's normal. Glad you posted though...

Thanks for the replies. I am going to pop in to the dealer when my schedule gets a little less crazy and see what they say. If it is anything important I will post it here...
