You're the perfect Porsche customer. Go buy one. Please.

I dont know what angle you are viewing my points from. You keep telling me to go "test drive and buy" Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz SUVs. To tell you the truth, I dont need to test drive them if you know what I mean. I would just stop there. You are way too smart to figure that out.

I just sold my Cayenne, and I am waiting for my ordered 35d to arrive next month. I had two BMW sedans before the Cayenne ('04 545i and 325i). Loved each of them & thought I'd always have at least one BMW in the garage. That plan was sidetracked for a few years when I fell for the appeal and prestige of the Porsche. The Cayenne is a good vehicle - certainly no complaints here. After a while though, I really started to miss the BMW feel. Everyone's tastes are different, but to me - each of my BMW's have had the 'just right' feeling. My new one will have a lot more power than the Cayenne, get a lot better gas mileage, have free maintenance, and qualify for a nice tax deduction for my business. It was an easy decision for me to make; though I wouldn't talk anyone out of a Cayenne.

i would compare the 3.0 to base cayenne as opposed to 4.8 to GTS, 3.0 is more similiar to base cayenne in many ways...

The new cayenne pchops look like even more of a frog / jetta wagon.
I had a Touareg V6 (which is the exact same car) and we went to a 3.0 X5 and its MUCH better. I like the look of the Cayenne GTS, but I'd still go for the X.

Well I just got my X5 3.0si after scouting around for 3 months. Test driven the Cayenne (base 3.6 v6 model), ML350 and Audi Q7. All base models.

End up with x5 because I find Cayenne V6 drives like a truck. The engine is sluggish and underpowered. The most unrefined V6 implementation I have ever tried. Noisy even if u are sitting at the rear.

ML350 looks ordinary. No road presence. Tested it and on a straight slightly uphill road, completely puts me off when the vehicle downshifted to 2nd gear 3 secs after i floored the accelerator. Heard the roar, but the damn SUV did not move. Imagine if I need to do instantaneous overtaking on a single lane road, I may have been hit head on by the oncoming.

Q5 is nice with all the latest gadgets. My only dissatisfaction it is really TOO BIG.

So...really do I have a choice ?

I wouldn't mind driving a Cayenne (S or above). They are great looking SUV's that drive great. They are slightly more prestige than BMW, but at a much higher price point. BMW is still a better value overall.

ultimate driving machine.. is what it sounds like. Nova - you may not be biased since you're a BMW driver.. but you're making sweeping statements with no real facts.. The MLs are ugly IMO the Cayenne looks ok - but still prefer the X5.. i might be willing to vote that the cayenne looks better than the e70 though.. but i'd still go with e70 because i'm an enthusiast so i understand your POV from there.. the cayenne interior looks like crap too - looks like a chevy IMO - my brother in law was going to buy one and that was the main reason he didnt.. interior did nothing for him.. and i agree.

exactly..i got a fully loaded 48i for 890 a month, a month ago with porsche's new lease program for the cayennes..the base model with the v6 was 1025 a month with tax and title down with not nearly as much options my x5 has.
