Is car polish the same thing as rubbing compound? I wasn't sure which to get at my local store. If you have examples, that'd be great. Will it make the pen line disappear or is it just to smooth out the leveling/height difference?

I'm going to order the paint pen (matching color code) from bavauto.com.

Even though I have the 3M clear bra on my e53 I did use this one time for a fairly noticeable rock chip further up on my hood. Works well.

This sounds pretty good, and easy.

Is rubbing car polish not going to get rid of the blob? What exactly would car polish or rubbing compound do to touch up paint then?

I can't recall exactly--you might want to ask them directly but I used it on jet black and worked great.

Hi rh71,
This is the product I use SOFT99 - Body Compound Super Fine Grade

After the paint dries totally, squeeze very small quantity of the compound on very soft cloth and rubb the area. Squeeze more when needed. Of course, this is a Super Fine compound so it takes a while to
finish the job. You can buy the compound with bigger abrasive powder
so you can save the time. But you will need to use this Super Fine compound thereafter anyway.

As to your question about removing the pen line or just leveling? It can
do both if you do it right.
