Consideriing Trade in of 04 X5 3.0i for 07 X5 4.8

Hey All,

I'm considering trading in my 04 X5 3.0i for a newer 07 X5 4.8i. Just wondered what you all thought or if anyone with an 07 can give me any ideas as to bugs, problems etc.. My 04 has been so solid, I hate to give it up but I'm looking forward to the V8. Here are the spece for the new one:

2007 X5 4.8i 21k miles
----------------------
Premium Package, Sport Package, Rear Climate Package, Technology Package, Active vent. seat package, Head-up Display, Heated front seats

They want 49,999 for it, is this a reasonable price?

Tanks, Jason

DON'T DO IT!! Maybe an '08 or '09...but 2007 was the first year for the E70...and there were, and are still lots of problems. Luckily, there are '07 E70 owners that have had little or no (well, probably not many with no problems issues...but I would take an 2004 X5 over a 2007 any day. When BMW bought my '07 E70 back from me...there were several other E70 owners at the same dealership starting or going thru Buy back procedures. Whether it is BMW, Benz, Audi, Rover, VW....first model years almost always suck. Lexus, usually has the fewest first model year problems though. Keep you '04 X5!!! We had a 2004 X5 4.4i and a 4.8is....and they were flawless!!!

Do it! I went from an 01 3.0 to an 07 4.8. No problems so far. The car had 12K miles on it when I bought it. 49K doesn't seem too bad, but I would push back a little on the price and see if you can't squeeze a little more out of them. Is that what they are asking or is that your negotiated price?

Make sure it is a CPO. And I would go down on the price--tell them $46,000 take or leave it.

Go for it... as your ages... you want to get rid of yours before it gives you problems and you start pumping money into it... now is a nice time to "negotiate"!

...i'm not a fan of the E70 (yet)...but you'll save money on upcoming repairs, you get an upgrade and considerable difference in performance.

CPO means dealer has to go through a series of inspection then warrantee the car for 6 yr or 100K. It's NOT going to be free. The car must meet a certain standard set by BMW NA, for example, tires must have so much tread left. So for the 21K miles car, if the tread of the tires are very low, you can pay $2K to have the car CPO'd since you will need to have to replace the tires anyway. Otherwise it's like you're buying extended warrantee. I have a friend who bought a similar equiped car -- no active ventilated seats, but with 19in wheels. 3rd row seat. rear entertainment pkg, non CPO'ed. has 19k miles. Paid $45K. So 49K is high in my book. 45 to 46k is probably good. If you want CPO, best case scenario is probably 47K ish. At least that what I feel is fair. Again, if you want to CPO that car, make sure it's worth your while -- that they actually spend money to get the car up to CPO standard, not just merely extending the warrantee.

The main attaction with the CPO is you are paying just a deductible versus out of pocket than if you don't have it. For the $2K that it will cost "extra" built into the price it's the only way to go considering just one window regulator is like $700. The car will be 7 years before it is even paid off (assuming a 60 month loan) and there's nothing worse than making an $800 car payment and having to also pay for repairs. I've had my e53 for 8 years now that I bought new and been pretty much trouble free but they are expensive to fix even with an indy.
