Really considering this X5 3.0si

Hey guys,
I'm seriously considering buying this X5

Cars.com: 2008 BMW X5 3.0si

It has sport, premium, comfort, tech, and cold weather packages. Does anyone have any experience buying a car out of state and having it shipped in? Do I pay for taxes when I register the car in my home state? Last but not least, does this seem like a decent deal?

Thanks for any help guys!

If you drop the sport package and willing to pay extra $4-5k, I think you should be able to purchase a brand new one with fresh warranty coupled with lower delivery cost. Of course that's assuming that this used X5 price is firm which we all know that's not likely. So, I think the answer really depends on how much discount you can get on this one. Just my 2 cents.

My opinion is it is way overpriced for this market. My new 2008 last summer was 48K on a 54K MSRP.

-No Idea if that is a good deal; some of the used pricing mavens will chime in.

-In most states, one will have to pay the state sales/use tax upon titling in your home state,
usually based on the sale/acquisition price.

-A few here have shipped cars, or wondered about that process: try Search Tab.

-I have bought 3 cars out of state: no problem. Drove them home, titled them, plated them, good to go.

-You might find cost of shipping is pricey; maybe a Continental plane ride to
EWR, pick up the car, drive back to Houston?

I saw this car and I like it. I tried to negociate a better price but it did not work. It was around 52K couple weeks ago. Now they discounted it! I can tell you that the car is in mint condition (outside and inside) . It looks like brand new. I did not test drive it as the price was over my budget. Guetting it is like guetting a new one looking at it from outside. It is fully loaded. I was not crazy about the indside color (grey) but if you like that color I think you should consider it..Gool luck

Amazing these cars are holding their value. All the options make it a better vehicle than today's equivalent base price but a 2-yr old vehicle you'd expect to drop more. Good and bad I guess. I personally don't like paying that much for used... a few K more for new, especially if you keep it a long time... who knows how it was treated during break-in, etc. Carfax starts at dealer auctioned @ 7k mi... I can tell you I've test driven a dealer's daily X5. Not all that uncommon they get out there for customers here and there.

Oh man,
I just clicked on the link again, and now the price is up to $48K. I swear yesterday when I posted this the price was at $46K. Hmmm, I feel as though something shady is going on. I e-mailed them and one of their internet people and they said that they will e-mail me the service records and an estimated shipping cost.

Maybe he decided to jack up the price since someone was interested. For some odd reason PMDad, I really like the grey interior. My wife has a Lexus RX350 with a grey interior and I love it. I'm glad to hear that it is in mint condition though.

I'll keep posting once I start negotiating on this "new" price.

Since you cannot run a KBB value for a 2008 just yet, I ran one for the same car but year 2007, same miles same options, and the GOOD condition value is $44,200, and EXCELLENT condition value is $46,400. THats for a 2007. I would ask them to work with you from the original $46k price, and try to neg that. Just based on KBB values, i think it would be a good deal. Just my opinion.
