09' X5 4.8: No temp gauge on the tach?

Need clarification please. I just took delivery of an 09' X5 4.8i and the ouside ring of the tach doesn't move at all. In other words, no temp gauge. My 550 has a similar tach, but the outside ring moves as the engine warms up. Is there something wrong with my car, or does the X5 not have that feature?

Thanks
DRP

It doesn't move in X5 because of some stupid reason which I don't know...
I was wondering too in the first week after delivery..

Only the 5 series ever had that feature.

08+ 5 series doesn't have it anymore either. I have an '08 535 and was waiting for it too. But it was stopped on 08+ models.

Think they started it with the previous generation M5 and then it trickled through the lineup (M3, Z4M and then on to the sportier non-M models) - however it really only makes sense to have it on high-reving engines that are meant to be continously taken to the red-zone. So if they saved that on the X5 to put something else in thats ok I supose

yes but...

I actually follow the limit on morning commutes. It takes anywhere from 2-6 miles for the engine to fully warm up (so you can hit 6600 rpms) on my 550. I always drive in DS, always. So I do actually appeciate knowing when I can go over 4500, 5000, 5500 etc...

Not an essential feature, but one I use. As for the X5. Once its broken in, I can forsee quite a bit of revving with the 4.8

Thanks for the response.

I had this feature on my '04 E61. I allways considered this a gimmick as I could rev the engine more than high enough even on a cold engine... the marker started at 3500rpm, maybe 3000rpm when freezing. Hitting 3500 rpm's or more on a diesel engine is pretty much useless as you're allready way beyond your maximum torque rpm... I only redlined it when kicking down, but you have the be a complete ass to kickdown a cold engine...
