FWIW my point was not that taking it in for BMW service was better (or worse, for that matter). Rather, that BMW probably doesn't automatically reset ANY service indicator, since that is one method to get most BMW owners to bring their vehicles back to BMW for service and to turn off that annoying light/noise/message

I do oil changes myself, rather than use the dealer. I suspect they don't use a torque wrench on the oil drain plug like I do.

Maybe I overdo it, but then again, I've never had a stripped drain plug...

....yeh... stuff changes all the time it's extremely common for something done a particular way one year to be done differently a short time later due to advancement of technology

I reset the service intervals myself, if needed. It's fairly easy.
