Warning Light after installing 20" Y214 wheels???

I just bought an 2009 X5 3.0 2 weeks ago. Came stock with 18" wheels. I bought a set of Y214 20" (replica wheels) with the correct tire sizes as per bmw catalogue.

However, something very weird is happening. Under normal driving, the DSC light starts blinking randomly and it seems to cut the throttle. This is happening under very normal straight line cruising speeds. It also happens randomly. It happened right after I swapped the stock 18" to aftermarket 20" wheels.

Any ideas what is going on?

You dont have the TPMS installed on the replicas. You have to hold the DSC button for 10 secs until it says DSC Inactive to avoid that.

TPMS = Tire Pressure Sensors. I had the same problem on my reps. I ended up installing the sensors on them and it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the reply. Are you sure you had the same problem with your reps? Just find it strange that TPMS sensors on the X5 affect traction system. How is it related?

Shouldn´t the TPMS sensor warning light be on if the sensors are not detected? I have a Lexus IS350 as well with aftermarket wheels and no TPMS sensors. The TPMS sensor warning light is continuously on, but it does not affect traction control system.

Did you swap TPMS from original wheels into the reps or did you get a new set of TPMS ?

It tells the computer that you have a flat tire and therefore it limits heavy acceleration since that's a safety hazard.

Which tires did you put on the 20's? if you chose non-runflats, it could be the reason why. I bought a set of non-runflat Michelin Lattitudes a while back and had to switch back to the stock dunlops to avoid the DSC random action.

Yup, got non runflats... the car is that sensitive to different tires? What size tires did you get? Same as stock? I actually prefer non run flats. The ride is a bit smoother and plus, the X5 has a spare.

I doubt the car can tell the difference between run-flat and non run-flat, it is more likely the TPMS

Yes i got the stock size. the michelins were quieter on certain surfaces but on concrete highways, they were a disaster. Anyway, i switched back to dunlops and i love it. I now have a set of Michelins in my garage with only about 3-4k miles on them.
