Realistic Pricing

I am currently pricing a newer X5. I have an X5 that will be coming out of warrant this coming November, and Im interested in the E70. I came accross a 2008 BMW X5 3.0i at one of my local BMW dealers. They have the X5 listed for $44,995, and it only has 13,775 miles on it.

Heres there discription of the car:

*CERTIFIED PRE-OWN BY BMW* 6 YEAR OR 100,000 MILE PROTECTION PLAN* One owner. No accidents! Showroom condition! Well maintained. Non-smoker. Power everything! Priced to sell! 6-Cyl. 3.0 Liter; Automatic; AWD; Stability Control; Hill Descent Control; Premium Pkg; Air Conditioning; Power Steering; Power Windows; Power Door Locks; Telescoping Wheel; Adaptive Cruise; AM/FM Stereo; Single Compact Disc; Bluetooth Wireless; Dual Front Air Bags; Front Side Air Bags; ABS (4-Wheel); Traction Control; Leather; Dual Power Seats; Moon Roof; Roof Rack; Privacy Glass; Running Boards; Grille Guard; Oversize Wheels 20''+

I pointed out the fact that they mention No accidents in their discription becuase I have looked at the carfax report and it states that the car was in a collision in Sept of 2008. Is this considered false advertisement? Is so is this a plus in regards to haggling on the price?? Or would it only become an issue if bought and then discovered that the car was in an accident?

So what can I actually expect to end up paying for an X5 like this one?

All of your guys' input is greatly appreciated. A sales rep from the dealer is expecting me at the dealer.

i would question them about the accident, and it will probably get you a way better price on the car.

I'd keep looking. There's plenty of them out there without issues. Also, I would try to find one without the mods. Maybe it's just me, but the front bumper guard and chrome wheels would send me looking elsewhere. Previous owner probably wasn't a little ol' lady.

Why would the bumper guard and chrome wheels send you looking elsewhere? The bumpergaurd and chrome wheels would make you think the car was driven hard? Like I said Im new to the E70s so I dont know what to look for. I really like the rims on this car...I guess I could do with out the chrome rims, theyre too flashy would the same rims in an alloy.

I also forgot to mention that this car has been listed online since April...is that a long time for a car to remain at a dealership? Will this also help me negotiations, if I go after this car?

is it unheard of to bring dealer cars to an independent mechanic? Because I'd definitely want it seen by another first.

I would not be put off by the mods, if that is what you like...very difficult
to draw conclusions of how the previous owner "treated it", based on
wheels and a mod, imo.

Sitting since April? Well, it is a non-stock car, visually. And, they aren't
flying out the door in many mkts. The "accident" vs "accident free"
discrepancy is cause for pause, but pin the dlr and ask them for their
version. I would then act vaguely interested, wait awhile and lowball them,
if you really want that specific car.

If you like it, then it is not for anyone here to dissuade you, but I would
come back and lean for a lower price, but that's just my 50cts.

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
It was mentioned to me by the BMW dealership that BMW does not CPO their cars that have been involved in a collision. So either carfax is wrong or its not a BMW CPO, ultimately it all depends on what your intentions are for your X(i.e. will you keep for the long haul, trade in 3 yrs etc). Looks could be deceiving, if it has been in an accident carfax does not tell you the extent of damage. I personally would look somewhere else due to the unknowns, plus for $45K I'd look for a 4.8.

I was also told when I bought my X5 that BMW would not CPO a car that has had any accident at all. They had an X5 that I liked more than the one I got less miles and had the DVD system in the back same year...but mine was more and they could not offer the .9% on the other car because they could not CPO it. I asked why and it had been involved in a minor accident. I think about 2k. Made me feel a little better about buying a CPO.

Obviously this guys spent some extra $$$ to get the 20in wheels and aero kit and the bumper guard. -- it tells me he is probably a car enthusiast, and hopefully takes good care of his car. 45K isn't bad for a 2008, you figured the car was probably around 55K and he spent another $5K on the upgrades. 14,000 mile is nothing -- if he bought it in late 07. Do ask to see what day it went into service. I would ask more about the collision though. Also make sure when you negotiate, as much as you like all that extra stuff, you tell the salesman you don't really care for all that stuff because in a trade-in they are worth nothing. Plus you don't care much for them. Wait and see how "motivated" he is willing to sell you. Tell him the car is worth 41K becasuse you don't care about the extra bling.

Thanks for the good feedback...So are you suggesting to make an offer of about 41K?
