M-Trim will not fit regular sport steering wheel ...

I know there are a few people considering replacing the steering wheel trim on their sport steering wheel with the M-Trim. Just to let you know, it will not fit!

I realize a couple of people have done it but you really have to bend the rubber sides of the wheel and force it to make it fit. I tried but didn't want to force it and break anything. The more you force it, the more it pushes out the steering wheel buttons and the upper trim bends outwards.

If you look closely at the following pic, you will note the lower sides of the trim are clearly shaped differently. The M-Trim is really meant for the M Sport wheel not the regular sport wheel. If you are determined and still want to do it, let me know and I will sell you the M Trim I just bought!

Oh and one more thing...You will get a TON of error messages in the dash if you remove your steering wheel & airbag EVEN IF you disconnect the battery first! You WILL have to get the dealer to recode everything! Just a heads up for those who plan to do this mod...

Ya. I just did it, and I agree with you, it is a very tight fit, but you can make it work if you want. In the other thread, I did advise folks to possibly wait for the real M-Sport steering wheel when it becomes available in the USA parts catalog. One thing I'm not clear on is, if the wheel includes heating.

BTW, we didn't get any error messages on the dash after removal of air bag and wheel, and replace the trim. Maybe we were lucky.

Just wondering, do you have active steering? I have this and the full dynamic handling pkg. The dealer said there are steering angle sensors etc. which need to be recoded after the steering wheel/airbag is removed. Even with my battery disconnected, I got errors saying Active steering is disabled, DSC is disabled, 4x4 disabled, HUD disabled, etc. All the errors lit up like a x-mas tree after plugging the battery back in!

I'm with the OP. Not clear yet if the M-sport wheel can be heated. The BMW website doesn't even list the heated steering wheel although if you have the sport package it has it while the M-sport doesn't. Can anyone who has ordered the M-sport package in the US confirm?

Ahh .. thats probably it then. Since my car is the diesel 35d, no active steering ... so didn't run into that issue.

Ahh yes, very nice indeed. Could you comment on if the steering wheel is a bit fatter than the regular sports steering wheel?

Just read in another post that it doesn't look like it has heating. And the photo above has no heating button either. Thats a shame, I rather like the heating on the steering wheel !!!
