REMOTE START AVAILABILITY?

I know this topic has been addressed previously, but to date, to my knowledge, there has been no resolution. I will not buy a car without remote start (live in cold northeast). Has anyone had success with aftermarket possibilities to date?

Thanks

(freezing in Boston)

Not a good idea.

I know you mean well, but your response doesn't answer the question.

There is a BMW remote start if I read the book correctly. I think it has something to do with calling the car, and it starts (I think). I don't have my X5 accessory book with me, but I will go home and check how it works.

This is correct - I saw it in Die Hard with a Vengeance. You just call BMW Assist and tell them that someone in the car is having a heart attack and Assist needs to start the car for you. They might become suspicious after a few days in a row though...

Looks like I was right.

Independent Heating

Generates comfortable warmth inside the vehicle before you start a journey in the winter months. During the startup phase the engine is protected and fuel consumption reduced by the preheated cooling circuit. Switched on with control display, ThermoCall or the remote control. These controls can also be used to activate the independent ventilation function.
You could use your phone to call the car and initiate the heater. It also comes with a BMW remote control which could be used to start the heater.

That doesn't remotely start the car, it remotely starts the fuel-fired heater. The heater is a Webasto unit, installed as an accessory by BMW on diesel models.

I know for sure it is available on the 4.8. Also, it has a low fuel consumption and runs off the optional secondary battery.

The entire kit is BMW original, but the ThermoCall is manufactured by Webasto.

Are you suggesting that this unit remotely starts the car (which was the original poster's question)?

I think you are talking about the remote for the preheater, not a remote for the starter motor.
