Sure, and it taught me that being prepared is a good thing. My father taught me common sense that says over-preparing is a waste of time

I understand the slight A-O deal on being prepared, but in this day, a cellphone, cash, CCs and,
some common sense are really all one "needs" on a road trip in the US...I don't think the OP was
going off road or trail blazing.

Having done a dozen+ long motorcycle trips, (inherently more problematic/potentially dangerous
and, little cargo space), including 6 coast to coast to coast shots, we never ran into a situ we
could not get "fixed", solved, or overcome. And, people are really pretty good out there, on the
road, imo. Good list though...

I'm with several posters: check the tires, oil, coolant, gas it and go. We do several car trips a year
of that length, with no probs., knock on wood.

Handling and ride to be expected (great), but particularly appreciated air cooled/active seat and the navigation system worked perfectly.

I'm in Houston also...enjoy your trip

Just a tidbit - I found out yesterday when calling my insurance company (Geico) that the same service AAA offers can be added as "towing and labor" for $8 total for 6 months. That's not a typo. Check with your insurance company before going to AAA. I got a competitive quote overall from Allstate and they also had a towing addon for under $10. I didn't actually add it to the X5 because of BMW Assist, though I've heard that's hit or miss.
