I don't have an answer. I do know, however, that I've had no problems withy my iPod and my '08 e70. I don't have a nano, though. I have a Classic iPod. I don't know if that matters.
Good luck! Let us know if you find a resolution.

My '08 E70 plays nice with 4th gen iPod, iPhone 3G, and 4th gen nano. Haven't checked 3rd gen nano yet but can do.
gianteli, What generation nano do you have? Also, it's worth noting that there are at least three Y-adapter cables that have been released: Part 61120440645 (up until about 10/07?) Part 61220440796 (2008. Which I have) Part 61120440812 (2009) |

I picked up my ride on Monday, so I'm presuming I have the last part. My nano is the first gen of those, which came out in 2006? I know it's supposed to read "ok to disconnect" on the display when it's working properly. Mine quickly alternates between that screen and the home screen (with the menus) and never appears in idrive. |

Your problem is probably your old nano. A post was made in Feb 2009 that said:
6FL Y cable for ipod: new part numberI don't know when that first nano came out. |

Well, the nano launched in late 2005, so I'm guessing that the cable i have should work. I plugged another iphone into the jack and it works fine. If i plug the nano into the aux in only (not the usb), i get playback, but have to control it from the ipod and not idrive.

Your Y-cable will be the wrong version to suit your Ipod.

Any Y cable should work .. it is usually just a charging issue with old cables with new gen ipods...Does the ipod change to a "connected" type screen ?

Also check your cable, I had to return one because it stopped charging the iPod, they don't like being twisted at the connection plug point into the iPod.
If the plug on them iPod end on the cable is loose there maybe a broken wire, that what happenned to mine
