So I learn its bad when the clock resets to "--:--"

Warning light came on one day saying reset the clock - well, ok...did that. Come to find out a few hours later when went back to back the car out of the garage, it just went "click" and thats it. Battery warning light came on and the idrive said "low battery charge"

At that point the car was 100% dead and ended up calling roadside service to have it towed to the dealer.

I have read battery problems on the forum, but this car is driven regulary and moderate miles, so it worries me something else is up.

Towtruck arrives tommorw AM. At least now I know how to manually release the parking brake and put the car in neutral. Amazing that when it totally died, I cant even open the glove box to get to the manual. Oh fun!

I had the same problem last night 1am . I just bought the car and arrived 2 days ago. Car was on truck for 7 days and I parked my car for another 2 days without starting it until yesterdy. I knew battery was charged by dealer before it shipped. To cut the long story short. The car totally dead but the strange thing was that I could not even unlock the door by using the physical key and it just keep beeping every time when I turn the key. I waited a few minutes and able to unlcok the car by remote. I jump started it and everything went ok.

These are news cars ? Wow, it amazes me that this issue is still not solved. Should be completely taken care of after 2 years of production imo.

The last fix the dealer did on mine was to re-connect the battery, as the connection was loose. Obviously a loose connection (perhaps bad design) will prevent it from charging, and will also cause all sort of "low battery charge" messages.

we're going through the same thing..... apparently in a myopic effort to achieve minimal emissions BMW even reduced the alternator load on the engine. I understand that the charge from the alternator is stuff all and dealers here in Australia are requesting a fix from BMW....

The car is about 9 months old and I just bought it as CPO. Does X5 has some kind of known problem for battery? I did not tow it to the dealer since I was able to jump start it.

it is a known issue from day one, but I would have expected it to be solved by now. It's not that people aren't complaining about this battery problem ...

dealer doing a software update on the car as the fix. I am hopeful, but somewhat concerned this may not be the end of it.

Update: new software loaded. advised by dealer that if have comfort access, car will look for key unless 50ft away from car when parked. apparenlty they did some tests with distance and keys at the dealer. This could have issues with battery drain. We will see.

Update again: 1 week later, back in the shop. Battery discharged but at least not to full dead so I was able to start and drive to recharge and get it to the dealer. New battery going in with another reprogram.
