Finished Work & Goodies Arrived

Well just finished painting the chrome surrounds on new black matte grills. The chrome part clips off quite easily, then sanded back, sprayed one coat of plastic primer and then 4 coats matte black. Quite surprised the colour match was perfect.

And my ceramic compound brake low dust pads arrived also from Carbotech. The rear pads were available but the front pads are hard to get. The current X5's runs a new front rotor (348mm x 30mm) so the front after markets pads are not on the market as yet.

Carbotech could not get the front pad blanks to bond there compound too so I had to buy a new OEM set from a BMW dealer, Carbotech could then remove the BMW pad material and use the blanks. Expensive way of doing it I know!

Bozz.
Its supposed to arrive at the dealer tomorrow if not then Wednesday at the latest and then the fun starts. They are going to get the wheel alignment readings and then install the new bushes, at the same time rip the brake calipers & pads off. Calipers get done which take a day or so and then install the new ceramic pads.

While its on the hoist they will install the towbar, window tint and swap out the grills, lights and colour code the mudflaps etc. Detail and pre-deliever it Friday and I will pick it up late on Friday afternoon.

Picked up the X5 from the dealer at 7:00pm Friday night, took them that long to align the frontend. There alignment machine kept telling them that the X5 was out of alignment because the VIN number entered did not match the spec of the X5 that was sitting on the alignment machine. So there computor kept flashing major fault across the screen which was to do with the new 6mm offset bushes I had them install.

Anyway they were finally able to overcome the problem, well after the 3rd E70 RHD with adaptive drive this one drives straight. Drove upto Noosa on the Hwy that same night, across the Noosa river on the ferry, 3klm up the road, thru the first cutting onto the beach, full tide, surfs up and a 14klm rally up the beach to the beach house! wow look out for the coffee rock!

Just got back home tonight (Sunday), the X5 goes back to dealer Monday morning to get a full pre deleivery and only one fault found (the buttons on the steering don't work) which is not bad considering it was just taken out of transport mode Friday afternoon.

So Monday to Tuesday the towbar is installed, stainless steel pedal box, calipers done & cermac pads, 20% tint, second wheel alignment, pre-delivery, those machanics will be pissed tomorow when all that beach sand starts falling out when they take that back bumper off to do the towbar!

So I should have the finished product on Wednesday, hey Bozz, it was great to catch up with you at the dealers on Friday night, sorry we could not have talked longer but I had to sign off on the wheel alignment spec that I wanted on the X5.

Looks very nice. White is a very good color for the M Sport. Can't wait to see more pictures of your X.
