heads up - windshield

I had my windshield changed last week and now I can barely see the heads up display. I see it great at night but almost invisible during the day. Anybody knows if heads up display requires a special kind of windshield?

Had the same issue. it's not the windsheild. you need to have the dealer do a software update. That should solve the issue. I had thought my HUD only worked at night -- until I brouhgt mine in for a steering wheel movement update, after the software update was conpleted, it also made the HUD visible during the day.

I will have them look at that...weird though... it worked fine before the windshield replacement...they also messed up my rain sensor for wipers and automatic headlights ... that's why I was wondering if there is a special windshield.

I was under the impression that the windshield for the heads up display was special - having a reflective layer in it for the display? So if you got a standard windshield I suspect it wouldn't work? But really - I could just be making shit up

was the work done at the dealer? typical glass replacement place won't touch cars with rain sensors.
Yes, HUD does require a different part number, I assume your dealer should know that. I should have been more clear, it was the light sensor/solar sensor that needed to be reset. My issue was that the headlight is ALWAYS on if I choose the dial in auto headlight mode. Give that a try, set your headlight in auto, and see if your headlight is on all the time. If so, then you had the same problem as me, the car is thinking it's at night, thus dimming the HUD.

Different glass and the windshield need top be placed perfectly and aligned. This is what the dealer told me. To much sealer or not enough and it will affect the "rake" of the glass thus affecting the HUD display placement.

This is exactly my problem. So a software upgrade fixed it?

You might want to have the dealer check to make sure you have the right windshield too. I know in my vette which also has a hud, non-GM dealers and the insurance companies will try to replace the glass with the cheaper version.
