Newb here: Looking at a 2007 E70 4.8i tomorrow............

Hi Guys (and Gals, if applicable)!

I've been a lurker here for awhile and find that there is quite a bit of knowledge on the E70's here, so I'm going to ask this of you, if you don't mind:

What problems or things should I look for when buying a 2007 E70 4.8i?

I've read that there are problems with the drive by wire throttle, but is there anything else that I should look for?

We've had our eyes out for a lower mileage 4.8i in Space Gray with most of the options and one of the dealers called Monday saying that they're getting a LOADED (he said Every factory option) Space Gray 4.8i with 31k miles on the clock. That's higher mileage than I wanted, but he said that he'd CPO it for us to give us 100k on the warranty, which is nice because otherwise, I'd keep waiting for a lower mile one to come along.

I've done my research and know what the KBB, Edmunds, NADA and know what all of those say, but would like to get your opinion on what you think that it's worth.

I Apologize for the rant, but I'd like to get the opinions of people that I know will give me straight advice and know what these cost and are worth.

Thanks Very Much in Advance!

You need to supply what the options are on it and miles but an '07 4.8 that is CPO should be in the low $50Ks I would think.

I purchased a used 2007 E70 4.8i three weeks ago from Crevier BMW in Santa Ana, CA. It has almost every option.

Things to look for:
-3rd row seatbelt retainer clips broken off - mine were
-examine the front fender bolts under the hood to see if they have been loosened - the implication is that there has been body work if the paint on the bolts has been disturbed.
-three sets of carpet mats should be present including the mats for the third row seats - mine were missing until I made the dealer find them.
-check to see that two plastic velcro tabs that hold the front carpets down to the floor are present on the driver and passenger side. They break when car wash guys get aggressive with the carpets.
-check to see if the tires are new. Tires on this puppy are very expensive.
-check to see if you have two headsets and one remote control for the rear entertainment system. - mine were missing until I made the dealer find them.
-insist on an updated 2009 Navigation DVD
-determine if the extended service contract is included or if you have to purchase. The list price for this is approximately $1800. This extends the free service past the 4 year deadline.
-determine the build date. If prior to 4/07, you can't add iPod compatibility without replacing the built-in CD changer.
-check to see if the license plate number has been added to the in-car BMW Assist profile. This has to be done by the dealer and often isn't done.

Problems that I had after I took delivery - all fixed by BMW under warranty but all could have been discovered by the dealer's service department and fixed prior to CPO certification:
-interior light bulbs burned out
-Voice Activation System not functioning
-2009 Navigation DVD could not be read - nav DVD drive replaced
-front sway bar broken - had to be replaced - symptom is a clunk whenever going over a bump
-front hood loose and bouncing when going over a bump
-engine compartment to air filter barrier had broken off and was resting on the top of the engine
-hesitation when accelerating from a stop - reprogramming fixed this
-battery went dead - purchased a BMW battery tender and now charge the battery once every two weeks. - was told the car has to be driven at least 80 miles per week. I followed the dealer's advice to always lock the car in the garage to shut the electronics off.

Conclusion:
AFTER I HAD ALL OF THE ISSUES FIXED, I LOVE THIS CAR, AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Let me know how you make out...

There will be first year model run issues since it's an '07 so just make sure they check everything out on it since it's a CPO.

Thanks WildClyde!

I Appreciate all of the typing and the review! I wouldn't have thought of quite a few of those things! I'll Definitely let you know how we make out! The dealer said that it'll be arriving tomorrow, but he also said that Wednesday................ We'll see!

Thanks again Guys!
