How to track my X5 after it leaves the factory?

I ordered a X5 last month and it was completed on June 10th. The 800 number to track it's production says that it has been released to carrier for transport to my dealer.

Is there a way to track the status of the carrier, like you can on a ship coming from Germany? How long do you think it will take to get to Seattle from South Carolina?

Yes, you can track the status on BMWUSA.com It says "Track a new BMW from the factory to your driveway".

The 800 number is often more up-to-date but it's good to check both

I'd guess a week to get there. It was supposed to take 3 days from SC to NY but somewhere along there it was delayed a couple days (the dealer nor even the 800 number person knew what happened to it)... then the dealer finally got it and had to take a couple days to prep it for delivery.

What kind of prep do they do actually?
I know there's some kind of 'transport mode' but never actually understood why..
