I have searched and searched for an X-Pipe for the E70 4.8i with no avail. Are you aware of a manufacturer that produces one, or an exhaust shop that can make one up (which costs more because of the labor charge.)

Any good exhaust shop can fabricate an x pipe. It doesn't have to be an aftermarket product. Labor is nothing, you can get a nice x-pipe set up for around $200 or even less.

If I can get it done for that amount or less, I'll do it tomorrow. I have to research some indy shops around here and plan that out. C's suggested a shop called Perfect Ten, but was unsure if they only do body/paint work. It's on my list of todo's for August or September.

MAKE SURE its a dedicated exhaust and muffler shop who specializes in this area only. DO NOT even entertain body shops etc...This is a very doable mod, no need to spend a lot of $$$

Paint/Body Work - Perfect Ten Auto Body in West Babylon. Owners name is Matt. Tell him I referred you and they will take GREAT care of you.

Powdercoating - Colorlife Powdercoating in Hicksville. Owners name is Al. Tell him I referred you and they will take GREAT care of you.

Best Exhaust Shop - American Muffler on Old Country Rd in Westbury. Can't remember the owners name, but they do it all and it's all custom. This is where most of the serious auto tuners/owners take their babies to get done up.

As for the X-Pipe, AutoAnything.com. Member LI-X5 got the E53 version from them and it sounds outstanding! They make one of the E70 too. Just go on their site.

Hope this helps.

Your tops Cal

I decided to get the wheels refinished by the dealer. They guaranteed the work from any chips or peeling. Not doing the powdercoat. Between the pros/cons of painting or powdercoating, had to make a decision and chose one.

I will definitely check out the exhaust shop for an x-pipe.

As far as Perfect Ten, I will call him when I get the paint from BMW. I want him to do all my grills, emblems, and body molding.

My mod'ng has officially started tonight and can't wait for the finished product, albeit a little while from now...

If you are doing painting, I highly recommend Al's Hub Caps in Mineola on Jericho TPKE. They are considered the best wheel specialists in the Tri-State Area. Even Lamborghini of Long Island uses him. He's also be about half the price of the dealer. I'm using Al for my Radenergie R10's on my M5, as I'm considering having him do all 3 pieces (they are a 3 piece forged wheel), various colors, over the winter. It will be all paint with these wheels. however, for the X5, I wanted durability since it's a truck and will get abused more than my M5.

Why did you choose the dealer? I'm surprised you would consider the dealer as they tend to be a complete rip-off. Just curious, but what did the dealer charge you to paint them?

As for Matt, you don't need to order the paint from BMW. Matt will match it perfectly. He's AMAZING! For example, I have Silverstone II Metallic on my M5. It's considered the hardest color to match of all the M colors, because the paint reflects blue hues from certain angles. It's VERY hard to match. Last year, a piece of debris on the LIE kicked off one car and onto one of the doors on the M. It was bad. I was very concerned that Matt wouldn't be able to match it. Well, I was wrong. After learning about his process for paint match, I have complete confidence in him. Aside from him being extremely meticulous and a total perfectionist, his prices are very fair. In fact, I sometime think he's offering me too good of a price. It's no wonder many exotic owners take their cars to him. You might want to save the money on the BMW paint and just go to him. You might be surprised. Plus, your color code is not so bad. He'll match it perfectly and will warranty it, since it's his work. I'm not sure about his warranty with their paint.

I looked into the Powder-coating for the wheels. I think the biggest concern for me was chipping or scratching that would require either a touch up (which wont probably look great on a thicker coat) or a complete re-powder coat. With the paint, its easier to re-touch up with less cost. In the end, wheels will get rash and scratches, and my bank account doesn't grow that fast. To each their own. I could be wrong...and then powdercoat it...and then PM you to say - you were right

As for the color, the only thing I was concerned with is the color that I'm using is not a body color, but a wheel color. BMW got the paint code for Ferric Grey, and since I do not have a wheel in that color yet, and its tough to match a wheel color, I figured just buy the paint, at whatever cost to make sure the grills, emblems, wheels, etc., all match up.

Since I'm having the dealer do approx. 4.5K of work, and I've spent 20K in the last two years on two BMW's in the service department, I was able to get some great discounts on all the parts and labor. I had received 3 quotes from various wheel guys, in both powder-coating and painting. they were between $100-160.00 per wheel including smoothing rash and scratches. The dealer is the one who wanted 160 per wheel. In the end, I'm paying for 2, the dealer is picking up the other two. Then I got the aero kit and running boards installed with paint for 2K, plus new tires for the X as well.

I have the same tips (not stagger though) and the sound is same.

I mentioned that I was getting an entire custom setup...not just the tips.
