Good story. SA's love those of us who have them on speed dial during the build wait. Mine made a deal with me that involved me stopping phoning every time I was wondering. It was worse in my case because I ordered a 535 in May 2008, for September production (waiting for the first ones built with a manual transmission).

Are you saying that from the time you ordered your X5 to be built at the SC factory to the time you took delivery at your dealer (not in SC) took one week?
or
Are you saying that from the time "150 - Production started" at the SC factory to the time "155 - Assembly finish / quality check" took one week? Or in the terms of the BMW NA site's 'Track your BMW', from 'Scheduled for production" to "Awaiting transport".

The former would be astonishing, the later probably normal.

When I ordered mine, my SA took out a restraining order on me.

Although, come to think about it, it might have had nothing to do with X5 order.

Sometime dealers adjust options on a car already in producton or it must have been already made with the specs he wanted and dealer just marked it for him, thats what it sounds like.

I'd gladly comply with the no physical proximity clause, as long as my SA agreed to email me daily screen dumps of the status. I'd even agree to remove my SA from speed dial. And only call him in an absolute emergency -- like a panic attack about not knowing the exact status at that moment

BTW my SA is very clever. he hasn't disclosed his cell phone number -- dang it.

Since this was my 3rd & 4th BMW purchase, I demanded the cell phone number . However, when I would use those digits and he didn't answer the phone, that made me want tohim.
In fact, he once called me about 5 days after making the deal (the car was on order,) and left me a voicemail stating there was a problem and I needed to call him. I think I got a nose bleed instantly after hearing that message. He didn't call me back for a day and a half. I know I lost some hair on that day.

I'm saying from 150 status, it took one week. My X5 was sitting at the dealer for a couple weeks before I could take delivery. I waited until Jan 2nd to take delivery. Personal property taxes... I also wouldn't have qualified for the BMWCCA rebate if I took early delivery.

Seriously, thanks for letting folks know that a quick turn around at the factory is possible.

FWIW I've know that the predicted build date (i.e. completion of Assembly) was going to be Aug 4 since the day I ordered it. I have just been wishing and hoping that it would get built earlier than predicted.

Week 4 -
Your X5 is stuck on the 'stacker' awaiting 'Entry to assembly'. So you begin reading the online version of the X5 owner's manual you downloaded a couple of weeks ago. After all, you will probably never take time to read the hard copy version once you actually get to lay hands on your ride But then you discover that this is a seriously boring book written by Germans. The plot is nearly non existent. The characters are one dimensional. But it does have some useful info and doubles as a reasonable substitute for sleeping pills. or was that the beer you consumed to console yourself -- again?

In desperation, you resort to downloading and viewing those cheesy owners manual mini-videos on the BMW NA site. So how hard would it have been for them to give each video a unique/descriptive name - DUH. Not to worry, renaming them will kill some quality time while you wait for your X5's now painted (and fully dried/hardened) body shell to fall off the stacker onto the assembly line.
