So you're finally taking delivery of your BTO X5...

Its been a very, very long 4 wks, 3 days and 2 hrs since you placed the order for the factory to build your new X5. During which, you've consoled yourself with so much beer, that the local glass recycling center added an extra bin*. But your dealer has finally agreed that if you behave sensibly (i.e. bring wads of money) you will be allowed to take your new X5 home with you tomorrow.

Since it's been a little warm (usually over 100F) every day for over 3 months, you opt for an inside delivery. This will give you a chance to go over the basics like: is it the right color?, does it have all four wheels/tires?, etc.. Then take your time, in air conditioned comfort, getting to know your new X5 better and reviewing in detail the options you ordered. Seeing you arrive with a clipboard, camera and white gloves will make your SA sooo happy

* at least they didn't put up a memorial plaque in your honor.

(to be continued)

Tomorrow?! Mine was built a day before yours but I'll get it two weeks later. Hello BMW, us Northwesterners need BMWs too for crying out loud.

And I'm not taking my SA any Italian pastries or wearing a short skirt just to speed things up either

Yeah my SA says the truck that delivered our X5 was on its way out NW using the scenic routes. The driver said something about stopping for a few days in Vegas, 'cause he had plenty of collateral for chips

In a moment of extreme empathy for the pain you've been enduring, your SA emails you a photo of your new X5! And by golly you get to check off those first two items on the list: its the right color and it has all four wheels.

Image warning for 5Bs (Black, Blacker, Blackest BMW Brigade) members. You may want to avert your eyes now.

The following image is of an un-modded X5 work truck (as opposed to a heavily modded X5 show truck) and it is not black

This diesel X5 work truck will spend at least the next 3-5 yrs hauling construction materials -- trailers full of framing lumber, cement blocks, mortar, concrete -- down a long dusty, crushed limestone driveway to our cabin (AKA the construction site). It will be a regular at the local quarry, loading up a couple of tons of gravel, road base, limestone, etc. in our 5x9' 5,000 lb capacity utility trailer.

So it is equipped with...
* the paint/interior least likely to show limestone dust in 10 seconds (Titanium Silver & Gray)
* 18" wheels and tires w/ the most side wall to handle rough, rocky roads (e.g. our driveway)
* and of course, the obligatory 6,000 lbs trailer hitch to haul stuff

It probably won't turn many heads on the highway, but I assure it will at the quarry

Hey, I happen to love Titanium Silver (check my sig for my 330) and ordered it for my X5. Like you said, it looks good even when filthy and has just enough blue to look incredible when it's clean. So what if every other car is silver, it's not BMW TiAg!

Looking good...

How many minutes now?

edit: OOPS - my sig is on Bimmerfest - same username...

Thanks, rh71 and cmyX5go. I'm glad my X5 BTO anguish has made a few folks smile
