Question on Deals

Out of curiosity, have any of you that got great deals ($500 over invoice, etc.) bought your vehicle for cash? One of the salesmen I talked to over the past couple of weeks essentially told me that he could not do a really low-margin deal since I was paying cash and there were no financing profits associated with the sales. I've heard this before, but wondered about others' experience.

I ended up somewhere else with a deal about $1,200 over invoice plus the $4,500 eco discount.

$500 over invoice is great! One of the salesmen told us that they had a X5 3.5d sell for invoice price, but that was a base car with only heated seats.

We got $1000 over invoice and will be paying cash.

The only options I didn't get were
Nappa leather- you can't have Nappa with Active ventilated seats
3rd row=they are so small even my 10yr old would get squashed
Adaptive drive
running boards

How can BMW charge for roof rails? Are there any other SUV/SAV that doesn't include them?

Well, they might be thinking of the people like me who would pay $100 to not have them put on. I was rather pleased that they became an option on the 2010 model.

Same here, I would have ordered mine without...

At least they don't make noise like the ones on my Infiniti...

Yeah, I had (actually still have) a 1992 Explorer with almost 200,000 miles on it with roof rails and I've never used them for anything. They just made it more difficult to wax the roof. Although the effect is probably minuscule, they also have a negative impact on MPG at highway speeds.

If you actually have a use for them, such as transporting skis or other stuff, or like the look, then it makes sense. But for people like me who don't have a use and prefer a more uncluttered look, it's great BMW now gives a choice. And at $100, that might be a record low price for a BMW vehicle build option (other than the zero cost ones, which I think of more as choices, rather than options)!

P.S. I subsequently did a search and found this:

Does My Roof Rack Affect My Gas Mileage? : Planet Green

I doubt just the rails would have nearly as much impact as an empty rack with crossbars and stuff, but based on my Engineering days back in college, I do know that even small changes into the airflow around objects are hard to predict and can have surprising impact if it makes a boundary layer detach early or adds turbulence. It would be interesting to see some wind tunnel data... I'll bet BMW has done this internally.
