New to X5 have odd question re grille
I just bought an 09 X5 and have noticed that the are very open air slots in the grille allow ALOT of bugs to get trapped in the AC condensor and oil cooler.
I would assume that if bugs can easily get through, gravel can as well. The reason I ask about this is that I had a small rock puncture the air to air on my diesel truck, which was not cheap to fix. Am I worrying for nothing or has anyone else had this concern? I would think that a fine mesh placed behind the grille would be a good idea, just wanting to know if anyone else has some input. Also if there is anything on the market that will help solve this potential issue. Thanks for any help. Solothurn |

I had read an article from BMW somewhere on how they did research on the shape, size and angle of the kidney grills to allow for maximum airflow and efficiency. This included everything from wind noise to esthetics. Needless to say I wouldn't change the design or block airflow by installing a mesh! The angle of the grills should deflect any potential rocks flying in. I have never heard of that issue so enjoy your new X5, I wouldn't worry about it...
