eyeguy,
Have a fun, safe trip! The Dragon is overrated, but should be nice on a weekday; the roads into the Dragon are as good/better. The BRPkway is excellent, and if you have an hour or two when at Deal's Gap,(Dragon), hit the Cherohala Skyway: higher elevation, near empty, nice ride. Weather looks decent for the next several days, though you can bump into rain showers, fog, etc., on a moment's notice, at those elevations. Your NEng trip should be titz, too...as is Montreal, if you park and walk. Enjoy your new ride! Take some pics and let us know how you did and your experiences! Good Luck, mD

I picked up my first X5 in Spartanburg and it was a great time. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Sounds like a nice trip you've got planed. We only did the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way home but it was a lot of fun and a wonderful way to get to know the new car. Have fun and drive safe.

Great first day with the new X5d
Just settled into Asheville - the new baby is tucked for the night; we put about 100 miles on today. Jonathan at the PCD rec'd less than 3.5K RPM's for 1200 miles - it's so tempting to rev it up. Once those turbo's kick in it just pulls and pulls; tough not to push it, especially after all the track driving today and off road maneuvers in their X5d. To echo others who've posted on Performance Center Delivery, it's an awesome experience. We got lucky to visit on the Spartanburg plant's 15th anniversary today - no morning tours, but the afternoon tour was a treat.
Thanks to Willie for helping to locate and secure the camping gear I shipped ahead to the Performance Center, Donnie for being a great on-road and off-road instructor and for showing us what an M5 can really do, and special thanks to Jonathan for not only a very thorough 2+ hour training on the new vehicle but also for helping over the past month to coordinate a challenging production and PCD schedule to allow me and my wife to launch our 2 week vacation with the new BMW! Jonathan - keep your eyes peeled for a shipment of that beer we talked about... Off to bed now - we're headed for the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway tomorrow. Pics of the delivery and trip soon... |
